FIRE Strategy Guide

🔥 Traditional FIRE

Accumulate 25× annual expenses (4% SWR), then retire fully. The most conservative approach.

🏖️ Barista FIRE

Semi-retire with part-time work. Investments cover the rest. Reduces FIRE number significantly.

🌊 Coast FIRE

Save enough that compound growth alone reaches your number by 65. Stop saving, just cover expenses.

⚡ Lean FIRE

Retire early on a frugal budget (typically <$40k/yr). Achievable sooner but with higher withdrawal risk.

Monte Carlo runs 500 simulated retirement scenarios with randomized annual returns. It tells you the percentage of scenarios where your portfolio lasts your full retirement. 90%+ is generally considered safe. Below 80% means you should increase savings, reduce expenses, or delay retirement.
Canadian FIRE uses TFSA (tax-free withdrawals) and strategic RRSP drawdown in low-income years. US FIRE uses the Roth IRA conversion ladder to access 401k funds early penalty-free. Both offer significant tax-advantaged space. TFSA withdrawals don't affect OAS/GIS clawbacks — a key planning advantage for Canadian early retirees.
⚠️ FIRE projections are estimates. Monte Carlo uses simplified return distributions. Not financial advice.
